Milena comes from a broken family, and her main goal is to bring her brother to Germany so that he can have a future. Laughs are exchanged, but it quickly devolves into a serious one-on-one heated argument between the man and Uschi. Milena complains about violent or fetishistic customers who want it kinky and rough, but also that many of them come unwashed and stinking. Most of the documentary takes place in and around the trailers the women use. Along with its tone, the film is exceptionally well shot. A large part of this immersion can be attributed to the tone of the film. Christoph Rohrscheidt's camerawork and composer Dascha Dauenhauer's sparsely used atmospheric music are similarly restrained and decidedly unflashy.

So I decided to make a film about it, giving these women a voice. But when a girl working in another trailer in the area is found stabbed to death, the atmosphere takes an ominous turn, and Milena and Rita start looking for alternatives. Uschi is a woman in her sixties who rents out one of these campers to prostitutes, most of whom are immigrants. The man accuses her of taking advantage of the women she oversees, Rita specifically. She rents out her caravan of love to women who have moved to Germany with visions of a better life, with dreams of having a family, children.

Review: Lovemobil

Lovemobil

A film about a microcosm that describes a society at the hardest end of a globalized capitalism. As the documentary progresses, Lehrenkrauss puts you right in the lives of these women as they navigate their clientele, the dangers that come with the job and the desire for a better life as years go by. She estimates that 80% of the men who drive by the camper van work at the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg and get paid twice a month. Lehrenkrauss focuses on two of them: Milena from Bulgaria and Rita from Nigeria. We are watching women who are in a bad place and who are maybe not the best people any more, if they ever were, but who are not giving up the fight.

Along the German motorway between Hannover and Wolfsburg, a dark-haired woman sits by the windshield of a motor home, lit by red lights, waiting for a customer. The long hours spent in the motor homes are mixed with loneliness and homesickness, and are only interrupted by conversations with their landlady Uschi — an elderly woman who rents out the motor homes on a daily basis. Rita asks if he wants to come inside to acquire her services. About us Cineuropa is the first European portal dedicated to cinema and audiovisual in 4 languages. The film portraits these women who came from far away in search for money and a better life.

'Lovemobil' reveals the behind

Lovemobil

Soon, the main characters are presented to the audience. A few non-explicit scenes show the protagonists' interaction with them, with some of the men's faces clearly visible, so it seems that Lehrenkrauss managed to gain their trust, too, for such access, having shot the film over a three-year period. There can hardly be much happiness to be found in this line of work, but there are moments of brightness and regular clients who at least appear to respect the girls. . The beginning may seem almost like a fairy tale but the film soon turns into a dismal drama about human trafficking.

These static shots hold for a long time, which in turn forces the audience to confront and grapple with whatever is currently playing out on screen. But when a colleague is one day killed by a customer, this small microcosm is shaken out of its usual routines, and both Rita and Milena start to look for a different way to survive and for a better life in general. There is, however, an unmistakeable hint of emotion on the filmmaker's part that truly connects the viewer to the protagonists as human beings. Lehrenkrauss' directing is polished and disciplined. The film takes an intimate look at the fate of two women who spend most of their time in underwear, sitting in the passenger seat smoking out the window, and luring sex-hungry clients into their temporary home. Stretched across an empty German country road, various trailers filled with colorful lights summon customers.

Director and cinematographer provide an incredible look into a taboo topic in society. A campervan stands by the road in the middle of a shadowy forest. They are slowly watching their dream slip even further away. Overall, Lovemobil is a mixture of funny and sad moments that offer an incredible window into the real trials of three women. Uschi is a former sex worker who rents out the trailers and oversees the other workers. Milena is a Bulgarian prostitute who's been on the job for quite some time now, hoping to soon find a way back to her younger brother.
